farther:更远。further:更远;更进一步,更深一层。作为“更远”,二者可以通用。若表示“更进一步,更深一层”,只能用further。

possible,probable和likely都有“可能的”的意思。possible和probable只能以事情作主语,常用“It is probable for somebody to do something 或It is probable that …”“It is possible for somebody to do something 或It is possible that …句型, 什么事是可能的。probable的可能性较大;likely的主语可以是人、事或物。

19 .sick / ill
